    Stalling in forward gear..

    My Merc 1978 50 keeps stalling when I put into gear.. I put it in forward and push down the throttle and it bogs down and stalls.. there also seems to be alot of play in betwee neutral and forward gear..<br />No speed until throttle control is almost all the way down.. Even if all the way down...

    Older Trim Pump

    I've got the older style power trim/tilt system on my 1978 merc 500.. I was wondering if the reverse valve on the bottom of the pump should be tight or should I loosen it when it in normal operation ?? The unit seems to work the same either way..     Just bought a used boat powered by a Merc 500 (50 hp) which has the mercontrol as the shifter..Just was wondering what the extra wire coming from the control is for ?? I can see the shifter cables for forward/reverse and the throttle.. Then there another wire that looks like some constant power...

    What year is my Merc 50

    I've just bought a boat with a Merc 50 hp.. They tell me it's a mid 70's model but I want to be sure.. The serial # 7018511.. Is there a power trim/tilt unit available for this ??<br /><br />Another question is, I want to change the Mercontrol to a newer model shifter.. I have the metal handle...
