    Lower unit swap help

    Hi<br />Does any one know if a lower unit from a 1979 50 hp will fit a 1983 50 hp. The only difference I see is my unit has the cutout for the anode above the trim tab.<br />Thanks for the help,Tom

    Reed valve help

    I have a 84 60 hp merc. How much of a job is it to replace the reed valves.Does the power head have to be seperated? Motor has a power. Idles and starts fine When I give it fuel it just bogs down. Comp 150 lbs Rebuilt both carbs and fuel punp.My mechanic thinks its the reeds?<br />Thanks,Tom

    Won't open up

    I have a 1984 60 hp that won't open up.It starts and idles fine.and is firing on all cyl. Comp is 140 all around.Also rebuilt the carbs.Pumping the primer bulb has no effect.     removing lower unit.need help 1984 60 hp

    Does any one know how to disconnect the shift rod to remove the lower unit I can;t tell if it's a allen or a torx that holds the rod.Also what size is the allen bolt that goes thru the top of the lower unit.

    Controls work backwards

    Just hooked up a 60 Hp merc and I notice the controls work backwards.When you push the handle ahead the motor goes into reverse Full back is forward.How did this happen :confused:

    60 hp merc won;t idle

    If I can get this motor to idle it just stalls when I put it in gear.Motor wasn't run for awhile and the gas in the fuel bowl smelled like varnish.

    Pinion gear very short life Help!!

    I replaced the clutch dog and drive shaft in my 83 50 hp Evinrude. However it didn;t last no more than 20 miles.When I disassembled the unit I found the pinion gear completly stripped and the end of the prop shaft bearing carrier worn down. What did I screw up? Also there is 2teeth worn off...
