72 Glastron Steering gear. Steering needs dampening.

I have a 72 Glastron V-156 Sportster, in very good condition. But the steering is so loose, I regularly hook a bungee cord to the wheel to keep it in place, or I'd instantly be going in circles. I (think I) have attached a pic of the steering gear. I have never had this thing open. Is there...

Can choke affect neutral safety switch?

I have a 1972 Johnson 65 horse outboard. It is been running extremely well since I put three new carbs on it a few years ago. Normally it starts instantly. And smokes a but too much until it gets warmed up. The other day, and tried to start the motor. It wouldn't turn over. I tried again and...

    Bad Gas?

Older Johnson, 1972, 65 horse. Last Thursday I was out on the lake, and my gas tank ran dry. Usually I try to catch it before it runs dry, but I missed it this time. I had another tank of gas purchased earlier in the day. I connected it, squeezed the bulb, and started up. But it only ran for...

    Idle Problem: 73 Johnson 65h

I've got a 1973 Johnson 65 horse. New power head 10 years ago. Compression is good. Starts easily. Runs well WOT. Even El Shift works OK. Idles OK at about 900 rpm. Slower gets rough and stalls. At 900 rpm I can remove top 2 plug wires, and it keeps running. Remove lower plug wire (only) & it...

    Leaky Gearbox '72 Johnson 65h

A few weeks ago I replaced a seriously bad upper driveshaft bearing and seals. Other LU seals new recently. I took it out and ran about 4 gallons thru. Ran great, but milky oil again on return inspection. I did not replace Lower Bearing. I expect it is not good, but I don't see how it could...

    Blown Head Cover Gasket

The siren was going off, so I removed the lower unit to look at the water pump. It looked fine. Then I removed the Cylinder Head Cover (not the cylinder head) to see if I could find Junk in the cooling passages. I found a hole in the gasket I could put my thumb through. But no Junk. (see photos)...

    72 Shift Cog Regrind. Possible?

I've got one of those legendary '72 Electric shifts. 65 hp. Runs like a top. But no reverse. I pulled it apart and found that shift cog, and the reverse gear with the rounded edges. I think if I could find these parts they would cost a lot. So why not just repair these. So I carry it off to a...
