Problem sorted. All this time of taking hood off to manually put choke on and all I had to do was push key in as I turned it while starting. You learn everyday.

The key is round like a castel key. I just put it in and turn. I don’t think I’m pushing it does not feel like it will go in any further when turning but I will give that a go when I get to the boat.

I'm having problems with the auto choke not working. Where do the wires from the coil go to. Could it be a problem with the wiring that goes to the controls. As I understand when you put the key in and turn this should get the choke to operate. All linkage is good...
