How does one set "base" timing on these since there's no vacuum advance nor (that I know of... nor mention of it in the Clymers book) any ports to jumper to set base timing?
Tried to time it via light and it's jumping a good 5-10* back and forth at idle...
4.3L alpha 1, Thunderbolt IV ignition
boat is as described.... 90 Bayliner.... 4.3 (262), Alpha 1.
Old motor went out....
long story short... it has a very low mileage chevy 4.3 balance shaft motor (don't ask how I got it all to work).... anyways... that's not the discussion here, just a bit of background.

So, I have a few questions and was curious to see what people have for advice.
the boat is a 1990 Bayliner Capri 20.5'.... living where I do we don't take the boat out a whole lot (it probably has seen 30-40 hours of engine running time in 3 summers).... in any event, the engine developed a rod...
So I'm just curious if anyone has made their own version of an Insane Pylon? I can't forsee spending anywhere near $500 for their product when it appears that it can be made for less than $50....
looks really simple to create.. and since I have an older bayliner I'm a little skiddish to build...
the engine is a 4.3L Mercruiser.... it's a GM engine.... has Alpha 1 stamped on the carb cover
