I am new to Boating and could use some advice.
Yesterday I bought a replacement motor for my boat. It's a 1987 Johnson 30HP.
Got it home and checked the compression. It came up at 110-105. within speck for an older motor I guess.

I bought this engine (with boat) knowing it had an overheating problem. I figured if I couldn't get it running I would use it as a parts motor.

I am looking at a 1981 14' Starcraft aluminum with a 28 hp spl motor.
As I look in the forums I see people trying to switch their shafts between long and short, or raising their transom
height to accommodate a motor.
What is the preferred type of shaft for this type of boat?
