Recently bought this 89 70hp Yamaha motor. The previous owner said the water pump needed to be replaced. The engine started right up and sounded good. Only ran it for about 30 seconds. Prior to starting I did a compression check which was good the plugs were clean and there was no discoloration...
Thanks for the reply. Do you have any ideas on how? I have found quite a few pieces but I have no idea how many there are or where they may be. Is there any way to flush that motor other than with a pair of muffs?
Will do, thank you.
Another question and if you don't know I will ask the group. On this 70hp Yamaha motor, when I purchased it, I was told that the water pump was going out and needed to be replaced. We ran the motor for just a few seconds and it sounded fine and there were no signs of over...
Ok, so if I just use the 10 pin wire harness I will have a warning horn for the low oil and over heating. I would still like to use the gauge for a tach so I know what my RPMs' are. I guess I will just hook up what is obvious and see what I have working on the gauge and go from there.
I am installing an 89 70hp 2stroke on my fishing boat.I would like to use the Yamaha multifunction meter that came with the motor. I am most interested in having the tach the low oil and the overheating warning buzzer working. A couple of the wires have been cut so I am interested in tracing out...
Sorry 99, I wasn't commenting on your reply and I should have stipulated that. The parts breakdown that I looked at just had the parts listed as, tube or gasket or adapter with no mention of flush kit so I was curious what it was for.
The motor is awaiting installation and I am unable to trace the tubing at this time. I noticed the broken fitting and wondered what it was for. I am sorry that I wasted your time. This is my first experience with a Yamaha motor. It may be my last experience on this forum. I hope you have a Merry...
It is definitely a garden hose connection so I am going with the motor flush idea. That being said, and I'm not the sharpest tack in the box, so my only question would be, why is it going to the intake manifold? It seems to me that water and intake manifold make a strange combination.
Can anyone tell me what the tube with the knurled knob just below the shifter is and where it goes to, up on the engine.? I bought a motor that the threads that the knob connects to are broken off and it looks like the metal part with the threads is just a dead end. I can't see where it goes to...
Thanks guys, I didn't think about a set screw, that makes a lot of sense. I did consider popping off the throttle only button but I didn't want to get too aggressive with it until I had done a little more checking. Thanks again.
