1985 175 hp shift rod disconnection

I have a 1985 175 hp Johnson engine, and I want to change the water pump. My problem is that I cannot even see the bolt at the top of the shift rod. Do I need to remove the carbs to get to it?

Stiff steering - how can I lube the cables?

I have a 1985 Johnson 175 on an 18.5' fiberglass bass/ski boat, having purchased the boat and engine about six months ago. The prior owner said he had replaced the steering cables about a year ago. My problem, if it is a problem, is heavy steering. I'm thinking that if I can lube the cables...

What engine does this prop fit???

I was told this prop would fit my 1985 Johnson 175, but it does not. It's 14.5" diameter for a 15 spline shaft. Overall length of the outermost hub is 6-7/8". Overall length of the inner hub is 3-3/4", with the spline length being 1-7/8". Can someone tell me what this really fits?

Can L77JC4 spark plug replace UL77V

Can I replace the UL77V plugs in my 1985 Johnson 175 V6 with L77JC4 plugs? I'm looking for a plug that won't foul as easily at lower speeds. If so, what gap? If not, what other plug?

Johnson 175 bogs at high speed

I recently purchased a 1986 Cajun Espirit 18.5' bass boat with a 1985 Johnson 175 engine. Both boat and engine appear to have been taken very good care of, and had been always garaged. The problem I'm experiencing is the engine bogging down (fuel starvation?) at higher boat speeds. The engine...

    Restoring metal flake paint

I recently purchased a 1976 Eldocraft fiberglass bassboat. The topside is a metalflake finish that has lost its gelcoat. You can now feel the metal flakes, it's almost like sandpaper. What can I apply to this to refinish it? :)
