    Hello- my Merc 650 (1963) i have determined has a cracked bearing carrier. That explains why the prop was sticking out from the lower unit a bit and not engaging the gears.     Hello- have a 1963 Mercury 650. It starts right up and runs great but will not go into gear. Moving the lever just ups the throttle (revs) but no engagement.
