I did try to check timing at idle yesterday just to see where it was and found the light I borrowed was working intermittently and would not provide any tach info. I’ll have to get my hands on another timing light. I also tried testing each...
Did compression check. Came up with 120 on each cylinder. So compression seems good. Got a service manual, will check carb sync, and adjust max and idle timing and max throttle.
Right at the 9 second mark is when it pops out of the exhaust and sends a nice plume of smoke out thru the prop, and then doesn’t do it again till around the end of the video.

Hi all, been doing more work to my new to me boat. Recently finished removing the injection system and going to 50:1 premix.
After the removal I ran the motor to check for any issues after having the oil pump off. I’ve found that it’ll pop or backfire thru the exhaust occasionally at 2500-3000...
Just ending this thread with my results. Ohmed out the stator at 0.5, no continuity to ground. Did a check of the regulator, which proved to be defective. Replaced the regulator, all is well now, charging at 13.5-13.8

Yea I had that they were bought by the company that owned whaler and then discontinued them as well.
So after more reading, and thinking I’m just gonna go premix. It appears it’s a matter of just pulling the oil pump, pulling the drive shaft/gear out of the pump and then putting the pump back on. Can anyone confirm? Should I drain the oil tank? Just leave the lines hooked up the way they are...

So were the 70, 80, and 90 horse models all the same? Different displacements at least? Or changes to the carbs and ignition tuning to get different hp ratings?
Thanks for the reply. Looks like across the two yellow wires should be around .3 of an ohm. And no continuity to ground as it would be shorted to ground. Might be a little busy the next couple days, but I’ll try to get to testing it and I’ll post back.
