    why does my 1979 140 mercury grind gears when i give it throttle to take off?

    is this normal or do i need to shim something in the gears?any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1979 mercury 140 inline 6 turns over but wont start

    engie will turn over but wont start. had it running cut it off hit the switch started right back up. let it sit for about 15 min and now it wont start back up.could it be my float level to low,fuel punp,low battery,sometimes i spray fuel mix in carbs it will start but die immediately.any help...
