There is no way that this won't be a long story so here it is.
This is a Volvo Penta 4.3GL PBYC serial number 4110167965. Since I have had it since spring 2017 it has only been run in fresh water. This is a 1999 model boat. I doubt the previous owner had run it in salt water but you never...
Two years ago I took the leg off the boat and replaced anything and everything in the name of preventative maintenance (the bellows and greasing lots of differnent things). When I put it back together i squished and wrecked the thrust washers against the steering support...
yes there was a dribble of gas when i took off my finger off the line, there was a bit of pressure as a tiny amount of gas sprayed. I assume its an electrical pump but i have attached a picture here:
it appears that this is what I have. Right now i can't run it to check if it is performing in this manner as it is still freezing here at night. I suspect it was running this way last year or it probably wouldn't have performed very well? I will check this once it gets warmer here. Is there...
The choke was closed to begin with, when i pumped it and left the throttle slightly open and cranked motor it remained fully choked. When I pumped it and approached WOT it started to open then and was open wide at WOT. Hopefully that makes sense.....
First photo is with throttle slightly...
last year I was concerned that the breather tube for the fuel tank on my boat was plugged up. I have to pour the gas very slowly to keep it from gushing out t. Also the initial starting of the boat every time we put it in the water seems to be difficult (even with hitting the button on the...
hi guys,
Just wondering if this particular engine has a crankcase ventilation filter I can't find one looking at the motor or in https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-cat-7797500.aspx. It has the tubes to the carburetor into the headers. Am I looking at the correct spot?
thanks...
The owners manual says to remove a plug on the port side of an SX drive in order to get the water out that appears to be near the bolts that hold the outdrive on the transom.
However my SX-M does not have this plug. There is a plug on the starboard side however and I am wondering if it is the...
I performed the following winterization procedures and want to make sure I completed all the steps required before we start freezing here in Canada:
with boat level:
Pulled two engine block drain plugs
Pulled two exhaust manifold drain plugs
Pulled two pipes off of the raw water pump
pulled...
got alot of maintenance done on the leg thanks to you guys, really appreciate all the help
Now another problem. Had a heck of a time getting it to start yesterday when i was running through fuel stabilizer and heating my motor oil. I had removed the flame arrestor in order to fog it. I...
I understand that there is a technical bulletin on dealing with the y-pipe when flappers are removed. Just wondering where you would find that? I pulled off my leg and am in the process of replacing the u joint bellows when i came across two flappers, one loose in the y-pipe and one lodged in...
I will be building a dolly as well to support the leg and plan to use 2 X 4s and 3/4" plywood. I have seen the many plans on here and they look good. Will 2 X 4s be strong enough to ensure there is no "give" when the leg comes to rest on the dolly and so that it remains level with the transom...
Also the seloc manual says that I might as well replace the u-joint, exhaust bellows and water hose while I have the leg separated from the motor. what i can see of the bellows (being that i have not yet removed the leg) they look fine and i simply can't fathom regularly replacing these items...
Have some questions about winterization/maintenance:
The first is that the seloc manual says I should use Volvo penta grease such as triple guard grease. Is there any reason I can't just use the same automotive grease that I use on my trailer bearings as well as my vehicle ball joints and tie...
I have a Volvo Penta 4.3 GL motor where the riser is heating up substantially more on the starboard side than the port side. I can keep my hand on the port side exhaust riser whereas on the starboard riser I cannot keep my hand in place for more than a few seconds. This is after running the...
