There is a video on Youtube on bleeding an oil injected motor like this one. There is a bleed screw on the pump. This motor sat for 10 years and the line going to that pump is dry. I will probably just delete it anyway since I don't trust em no matter who the manufacturer is. Adding oil to the...
Just picked up this motor last week. It's a 1999
I'm cleaning the carbs right now and noticed the top carb throttle plate only opens up maybe 75% and evidently that's factory. If I bent that tab to make it open up fully would that give me more HP? Is this Nissan's way to restrict these motors...
About 10-15 years ago I had a 9.9 carb and a 15hp carb and water tested them on the same boat/motor within minutes apart. The motor was probably a mid 80's JohnnyRude that came from the factory as a 9.9. When the 15 hp carb was on the performance was night and day. The 9.9 was a dog. No I did...
I thought the RPM max was 6K for these motors?
Anyway, a 15 HP motor will kick a 9.9 butt all day long. A 15hp has soo much more low end torque and throttle response then a 9.9 does. Top end they're only a few miles apart but it takes a bit of time for the 9.9 to max out, the 15 does it in...
Found a good fuse and cranked it up. The buzz is still there but I think it has something to do with the VRO that was disconnected. When I unhook the VRO wires the buzz goes away.
Motor sounds good and it has good compression. LU is still good.
Thanks
"Test the overheat warning horn too"
One of the control boxes had an awful buzz when I turned the key over. Is that the overheat alarm? The buzz went away on that box but now it won't crank the motor.
I hooked up the other box that didn't have a buzz and would crank the motor but now it has...
I was hoping you would reply racerone.
It was the fuse. The fuse on this motor is located in a red rubber boot in the electrical block part of the motor. It looked like it was sealed to me so I never looked at it that close. Now to find some midget 20 amp fuses. Thanks
I bought a 1990 40hp Evinrude (untested) that I can't get started with the control box. I have tried to start the motor on a couple other sets of control boxes I have laying around and no luck. Motor is in neutal as well as the handle on the box. Kill switch is connected. Nothing.
I can jump...
You could part it out on ebay and make several hundred dollars.
Notable parts are the carburetor, starter rope recoil assembly, lower unit, tiller arm, propeller, etc........
There's a couple OEM impellers on ebay for under $20 shipped.
A couple years back I bought a cheap chinese impeller for an outboard I had. It only lasted about 30 minutes before it melted. Had to of been defective but I will not be buying anymore from there.
You're right its a 1973 2 hp. The serial # is E0001963 which I assumed was the model year. I don't mess around much with these early OMC outboards but I couldn't pass it up for $20 at an estate sale.
Thanks
Can these impellers still be purchased?
I see aftermarket 2 hp impellers for OMC outboards built from 1967 and later. Nothing for earlier models.
The closest I can get dimension wise is part # 0114812 which is about 3.5 MM smaller in total width then the original.
That part # fits early 90's...
Bad ball or an air leak in the fuel line anywhere from the tank to the carb.
If its hot it can be a bad/old impeller, blockage somewhere, or corroded water passages.
