    Cannot stop engine with key switch.

    My 1989 70 hp Merc will not shut down when I turn the key off. I can kill the engine by pushing in the key (choke) and putting the engine in gear.<br /><br />The switch is new (about 3 months old) and the connections are clean.<br /><br />Any suggestions?

    Charging 2 batteries at the same time

    I just checked the charge on the batteries on my boat. I switched my selector to 1 and the voltage to my Depth finder and my GPS read 12.3V.     Merc 70ELPT 1989 model not charging

    My dash gauge shows 11.3 volts as does both depth finders. The gauges show the same whether the engine is running or not.<br /><br />Is there any way for a novice mechanic to trouble shoot the problem.
