    how do i tell if my merc is pumping water. i have ran it in a barrel of water, and see just some water sperting out of the holes on the back side of the lower unit above the cavatation plate. my manual sayes it should have a forward and reverse, only has f & n. could this be because it was made...

    The engine plate with the model # also says made in Belgium, will this make a differance on the year. Also it does have a fuel pump behind the remote plug.

    Recently bought a 4hp Mercury outboard, Moder # 9090140. Any idea of the year, also the knob on the right side of the engine, is it a fuel shut off? Does the opening on the front nest to the choke, a hose connection for an externial tank.
