    2001 merc 40 elpt 4stroke bogging at high throttle

    2001 Mercury 40hp elpt moter that runs fine at idle and low speeds, when throttle mid range and up it boggs down and eventually dies. I had the carbs cleaned out. I am thinking now about which electric parts to check. Does anyone have instruction on checking the igntion or anything else?.

    I have 2 3/8 holes in the transom of my tracker boat. What is the best way to fix this?. I was going to have it welded but the welder said the wood in the transom would catch fire, and possibly smolder until there is nothing left.     Running you Main moter at idle for trolling?.

    I have been running my 1981-83 40 hp mercury at about 1000 rpms for trolling. I have heard this is bad for two strokes, and then agian I have heard it does not harm the moter, it may just fowl the plugs. What are you ropinions on this. Thanks

    Engine mounting

    When mounting a clamp on engine would it be a good idea to place a piece of rubber in betwwen the moter and the mounting plate? would this affect anything?. On my engine I noticed it does not fit exaclty flush with the top of the transom, because of a slight roundover on the moters mounting bracket.

    I pulled the flywheel on my 1980-83 40HP merc thunderbolt Ig. serial 5992846. The inside edge of the flywheel where the magnets contact there is a heavy layer of rust and possibly paint, Is that suppose to be smooth and clean to the Metal?. Also are the magnets supposed to be on the flywheel...
