My 1976 Merc 165 misses badly at idle when hot. Checked pump for volume 16 oz. in 30 sec seemed fine. Pressure pegged the gage at 10. Manual says it should be 4. Is their such a thing as to much pressure.

First noticed problem 2-3 summers ago on really hot days would hesitate 10 sec or so after warm start then run fine. No problem with cold start or after hot days went away. In fact I would forget all about in cooler weather.

Manual says on final installation of bearing carrier apply Perfect Seal liberally to outer diameters which contact gear housing & to retainer threads.
Perfect Seal is hard to find locally but from searching around I gather Aviation Permatex is the same or very close product...
Replacing water pump on MC-1 1976 year and shaft is worn where seals ride.
I am looking for the tool to shim the pinion gear when I replace the drive shaft.
Anybody know where I can find one for less than $110-$160.
