Any tricks to installing an OMC Cobra?

I pulled my drive to check the exhaust for my missing flappers; now I have to put it back on. The manual (Sealoc) didn't mention anything about it being in drive and it came off fairly easily. I'm going to attempt to put it on tonight. So if anybody has any tips or tricks, I'm all ears.

'88 OMC low RPMs at WOT

I'm having a bit of a time sorting this one out. Like the title says, I have low RPMs at WOT. Engine is a 383 stroker making about 340hp in a Bayliner 2455 weighing about 3900lbs (counting 30 gallons of fuel, water, pax and "stuff"). RPMs are: 4200 with 18 pitch prop (4 blade), 4300 with 15...

    Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake This was NOT what I wanted to see Saturday morning when I went to get the old gal ready to launch!  Looks like I blew a seal on my port trim cylinder. Also after some searching by using a die in P.S. fluid and poking around with a black...

    Any way to trace

someone who keeps getting on my wireless network? It appears that somebody in my neighborhood has become quite adept at cracking my wireless network name and password; that or they have a password cracker. I have been seeing activity on my wireless router when nobody here is on the...

    Best location for temperature sender?

In an effort to get the most accurate temperature of the engine, where would you consider the best location for the temperature sender? 1) In the intake manifold right before the thermostat housing to see the maximum temperature of the water exiting the engine. 2) In the head to see more of...

Need some advice on launching and recovering my 2455

Yea I?ve been doing it for over 20 years, BUT this is the first trailer that I?ve owned that floats! The trailer is a 2005 dual axle aluminum ?I? beam trailer. The interesting thing is that those four tires provide enough flotation to keep the trailer suspended in the water and create an...

    Bending Steel Fuel Pump Lines

Cliff notes from the past week are as follows: Problem: Boat starving for fuel at WOT. Anti siphon valve was gummed up (no surprise there, it had been setting for over five years) and a very weak fuel pump. I ran down to West Marine and replaced the anti siphon valve, so we are good to go...

Bowstop roller vs bow eye location

I noticed last week when I launched my 2455 for the first time, that unless I backed the trailer out waaay further than I like, the bow spirit (pulpit?) would hit the bow roller. Also having to wade out far enough to cause "shrinkage" will be a major pain once the water really cools off. Of...

    Troubleshooting Gurus, Assistance Needed Please

Well after an additional year of work, due to many delays, we finally splashed our 2455 last Sunday! Overall things went pretty good except for what I am hoping are a few minor problems. First off, she has a rebuilt '88-90 350 in her with a slightly larger than stock cam. I am in contact with...

    And now for something different

After setting the timing on my 88 Bayliner 2455 (350/OMC Cobra), I was behind the boat and the engine was running on the muffs, when I noticed a steady trickle of water exiting through the drain plug hole! Now everybody knows that ain't the sign of a healthy, happy motor. After much contorting...

    Running warm at idle

The last time I had my Regal out, I noticed that after idling for any length of time (mainly trolling) my 89 Mercruser 4.3 / Alpha 1 will run quite warm. If I up the RPMs to about 1500 she cools right off to her normal operating temp. On plane, everything is fine; drop down to idle speed and the...

    Here's a real head scratcher

About a month ago I had lightning hit a tree about 8' from where I park my boat. It came into the boat through the metal landing gear of the trailer and fried the trolling motor, the fish finder, the battery and the radio. I thought I had everything straightened out, but yesterday when I was out...

    Houston, we have a problem

If I had done this, it would be in the stupid human tricks board.

As I was prepping the boat to take it out this afternoon, my daughter decided to be helpful (you should know where this is going :) ) and noticing that the boat was low on fuel, she grabbed a five gallon can and...
