I replaced the sintered filter, cleaned out all the ports and screen on the check valve and the motor runs well now. I do need to replace the leather washers in the primer pump because it leaks while priming. Does Lloyd Lautner still offer these replacement leather washers?
I have a new sintered ball filter due in on Saturday but thought I'd start the engine after cleaning the the old one. Perhaps fuel flow isn't as good as it should be and the NOS filter will correct the problem. In the meantime I will inspect the filter screen around the check valve just to be...
Tank vents are clean. LS needle has been adjusted from 1/2 to 1 1/2-2 full turns out with no change. High speed needle has been adjusted in many positions. Once it stalls I do have to hit the primer a few times so I think this is fuel related. Now I'm suspect of the small screen that surrounds...
Started the engine and it runs for 30sec or so then backfires out of the air intake/silencer and rotary valve intake and dies.
-Adjusted high and low speed jets with no change
-Checked fuel flow from tank (previously cleaned tank filter). Flow is fine.
-Attached an inline spark tester and no...
I am ready to start the 5hp TN-26 today and could use some help with proper fuel mixture. Could someone provide the correct ratio? I'm using 24:1 in the 1959 3hp Evinrude. Will that work?
Great information here! I wasn't looking forward to replacing a top crankshaft seal and now I have a complete understanding of the slinger and bearing lubrication surfaces. Thank you for the documents!!
I suspect that the upper bushing is most likely dry as this motor probably hasn't ran for 20yrs. Perhaps a bit of oil will seal off some of that crankcase pressure. There is no play in the upper end of the crankshaft that I can detect.
I downloaded a parts catalog for the TN models and cannot locate the upper crankshaft seal part number. This is the seal under the armature plate. I have yet to remove the armature plate so I haven't inspected that area but I can hear crankcase pressure leaking from under the plate. Does anyone...
Prop shaft was frozen in this unit and gear oil was dried up. After a week soaking in WD40 prop and pinion shafts are now spinning freely. Teeth on the gears are pristine. The pinion shaft/clutch pilot and spring assembly does not move up and down so it is stuck in neutral. Is there a way to...
Shift cable has been disconnected at the power head. There is no reason to remove the upper cable tube if you're not removing the powerhead. The cable will just slip out of the upper and lower tubes as you separate the 1/4" plate between the gearcase and midsection. I removed the four screws...
