ok question here. I have had given to me a 5.5 hp ted williams motor.
It is air cooled by the badges and by the looks of the motor. yet it has a sticker on it saying to run the motor in fresh water after running in salt to flush the motor. Is this just a generic sticker they put on all motors...
Is there any real reason for the exhaust on an outboard to go thru the lower unit?
Reason I ask is that the exhaust bellows on my L drive looks a bit on the weathered side. and replacements are pretty overpriced and may not be avaliable in a few years. I was thinking of constructing a Exhaust...
Ok what gasket set would i Get for a 1989 85ld9a L drive power head.
compression test on my l drive has revealed problems Pulled the head and the cylinders need honed to clean them up. No problem for me but what gasket
set should I get? probably should put rings in it while I have it apart.

Well So far so good gentlemen. Thanks to your help and direction I am making some progress.
Have a manual on the way (the clymer one ) got new plugs, found a brush set for the starter (old brushes were shot But with some tinkering I got em to work for a little while) Got the wiring fixed...
Ok I got a free boat. It's a bayliner capri with a 85hp force L drive.
I have read the threads about the L drives being not so great.
and also ones where folks had them were running them and they
just need attention paid to the upkeep of the motor.
