    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

Think I found the problem!!! Was going to pull the plugs, and saw this!

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

I wish I could edit my post. I put the muffs back on today, and before start up turned the key on and off a few times and heard the fuel pump kick in each time. I started it up and it ran much smoother than yesterday. It sounded perfect.

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

I like to use non-ethanol in all my engines that can/will sit for a while. They always fire right up when needed. Now Something new.. I changed the sending unit and the fuel filter/separator. I ran it on muffs yesterday, and it was running rough. The only thing I can think of is I didn't fill...

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

So I drained about 35 gallons of ethanol out of the boat. The tank is nice and clean. Also replaced the sending unit with a KUS while I had the floor off. Side note, I added stabil to the gas when I got the boat, and it turns out the bottle treats 120 gallons. Sounds like I over did it by not...

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

I checked the fuel filter/water separator and it looks very clean. Strong gas odor, but I'm going to replace it anyways. Not knowing when it last done. The cap and rotor look a little tight, so I'll youtube how to get to it...

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

Alright, will start with all the suggestions! First things first, get rid of the ethanol. I'm sure the Jeeps will handle it better, so it won't go to waste. Going to see if I can get some clear line to siphon out the old stuff first.

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

Thanks, will check both! Also just heard back from the owner, and he said it's been a while since he fueled up with ethanol. (last season?)

    Water pump shredded

1993 Evinrude 48HP VE48ESLETE Previous owner said the water pump was just replaced. Well yesterday I went to start it and there was no water pumping. I revved the motor and it started working for a minute, and then nothing. Today I pulled the lower unit and it looks like the impeller is too...

Evinrude 48 not idling, runs poor at low RPMs

I have a 1993 Evinrude SPL and and having a hard time getting it to idle. Even at low RPMs it runs bad. As soon as I get on the throttle, it smooths out. Runs great at WOT. The other day I was trying to get it started and it wouldn't stay running. Went back out, turned the slow needles out a...

    HP Rating

I have a 20' foot Sweetwater, and it says it's rated for 60HP. Would a 70HP work, or would it be too big?

Rebuilt the fuel pump on an Evinrude 48 SPL

I'm guessing this is the reason the engine was starving for fuel at higher rpm's. The old diaphragm feels like a piece of plastic, and the check valves are all warped.

    Bimini top hardware

My hinges and eye ends are nylon, and looking very wore out. I'd be affraid to put the top up while running the boat. Should I just stick with the nylon hardware, or is metal/ stainless the way to go? Looking for pros and cons.

    My (new to me) Sweetwater

About a week ago, I bought a 1986 20' Sweetwater with a 48 SPL Evinrude. ('93) She needs a lot of TLC! Besides cosmetics, the engine is starving for fuel. I hope the fuel pump and primer solenoid rebuild kits I ordered do the trick... It's not half the boat you all have, (you guys have some...

its getting borning some one needs to break something

Re: its getting borning some one needs to break something It should. I was using an oil drain rubber plug on one pontoon, and it didn't leak. (cheap wingnut type) Once I sheared the plug on the other side, I decided to go this route. I went from this: To this: (much more stout!)...
