    Trim Limit setting. 20deg?

Hi, Just re-installed my MC1 sterndrive on the boat. The Trim-sensor was just a dummy (also no gauge in the boat). But there was a Trim-limit switch that was "bridged". So would like to put it back as it should. I read somewhere that a 20° - 25° angle is the max you should go while boating (to...

Advice on Removal of manifold Mercruiser.

But you're right. Still a risk that water can enter oil or vice versa. The original oil was milky :-(. But no clue at all how long it was in the engine.... We will see

Advice on Removal of manifold Mercruiser.

I believe to also saw a drain plug on the end of the elbow. Could this be right? For the moment I am aware of 2 drains. The one on block (in the back) and also one on the bottom backside of the manifold.

Advice on Removal of manifold Mercruiser.

Okay, I know what to do. And I'm really interested to see why it has 2 clamps on each side. Related to the crack, I saw it was repaired before and some water is leaking. Did compression test on all 6 cyl and measurements seemed fair to me. So I hope its just the water circuit.

    Slickcraft SS204

Hi, working on the rebuild of the engine and my Slickcraft SS204. The inside and outside of the boat have received some "repair", so I have no real view on original setup, My question: was there originally some storage place in the front of the boat. The front has some kind on small sundeck...

Advice on Removal of manifold Mercruiser.

Hi, Engine Mercruiser 165HP, 6 cyl in-line from 1970's. Engine is in the boat. To fix a crack I started removing the manifold. The nuts and bolts are removed and the manifold is "loose" from the block. But I still have the U-shaped elbow that keeps it connected to the exhaust. I removed the 4...

    JB Weld or alternative

Hi, after some checks and feedback from this forum I saw that there has been done a repair (no clue how long ago) on the block, probably bad winterizing. I will remove the exhaust manifold to have a better look at it, but I expect it was repaired with JD Weld or similar (I see the grey repair...

    Ballast Resistor or not?

Oh... I'm learning something new now. So when I switch on the ignition key and provide power to the coil it is normal to measure around 9V? This thanks to a resistance wire. But when turning the key towards cranking I should see 12v. Is that the reason why I see 2 brown wires at the coil? Didn't...

    Ballast Resistor or not?

Mercruiser 6cyl in-line 165HP 1970's-80's I have checked all my spark plugs for spark and have been able to start my engine for the first time, very short as cooling was not active yet. Afterwards I did some electrical work and discovered that on the positive side of the coil I only have...

    Size Jet's? Reference table

Hi, Thanks to the input of the forum. My order for parts at Mike's is almost ready. :) I checked the 2 jets on my carb and I seem to read "49" (see picture). Or do I read this wrong? No info on the history of this carb. Does this make sense? I thought it should be closer to 60. But only based...

    Carb Needle condition / function

Hi, I did quite some efforts into understanding how a carb works. But the 2 barrel concept didn’t ring a bell. I thought it was purely related to overall capacity of the carb versus engine air flow. But now it’s clear that the 2 barrels serve 2 DIFFERENT sets of cylinders. 👍 And of course 2 idle...

    Carb Needle condition / function

I checked the float (was rebuild) and cleaned the needle that stops flow to the bowl. Also based on visual inspection, needle looked fine. But is there a simple way to check if I really closes the fuel flow in the right manner?

    Carb Needle condition / function

Ok, thanks for the reply. As I guessed, the needles are ruined. And I found some spares at Mikes already 👍. Lucky the bores are not raised, so I guess this is still ok.
