1973 50 Mercury Thunderbolt 500 Serial # 3722026
I am in desperate need of 2 idle tubes for this motor. The part is no longer available that I can find and even looking on the parts lists, it shows it in the exploded view of the carb, but doesn't list it in the parts below. Here's the link to...
I ordered and installed what I thought was the OEM carb kit for my '73 Merc 500. The Quicksilver kits I used were 1399-4218. It was almost completely wrong. Gaskets, idle needle, jets, float needle/seat etc... Can anyone help me figure out the actual OEM kit number please? The one previously...
Going to be adding a Garmin Echo 200 to my rig fairly soon here and I was wondering where the best spot to put the transducer would be.
There is already an old bracket from a previous one, but it won't work with the Garmin. I was thinking I'd put it in the same spot only lower so that it's...
Re: 1973 Mercury Thunderbolt 500 50hp no power and horrible fuel economy!
Just took a couple photos quick because I believe I seen the mechanical stop you spoke of and it's a good 1/4 to 1/2 inch + from touching it at WOT. Let me apologize right away for the photos. I don't want to start taking...
Re: 1973 Mercury Thunderbolt 500 50hp no power and horrible fuel economy!

I posted this question within one of my other threads, but it must have gotten overlooked.

It does scream quite loud when trying to get on plane there's no doubt there! After I'm planed out it sounds like I imagine it should at the speed I'm moving. I'll check with the "Prop Dept." and get their input...

This (pic below) broke when I was...
It's the 'T' fitting that connects the upper and lower carbs on a '73 Thunderbolt 500 together. I'm looking for the horizontal one to be threaded (like pic) and the two vertical to be barbed... I'm not sure if there is a specific name for this type which could be why I'm unable to find one...

Re: 1973 Mercury 500EL Thunderbolt 50hp issues?!?
I noticed that these hoses are pretty brittle and one them is actually missing the rubber that surrounds the fabric liner. Whether this is part of the issue or not, is there a replacement kit...
