to those that have done alaska cruise:
what is the best scenic route , viewed from the ship, or the one place to make sure is included?
Both the ship and the tours are great. One of the reasons we always get a room with a balcony is the scenery we see. Plus it’s nice to sit out on the balcony and read, sleep, or just watch the world go by. We’ve seen spectacular sights. Once out from our balcony was a pod of killer whales pacing the ship. It was amazing. Hers just 2 pics. A sunset on the inside passage and a glacier in Glacier Bay National Park. when the ship goes into Glacier Bay it stops and does 2.5 complete 360 degree turns in place so everyone can check out the glacier. It’s amazing. IMG_0026.jpegIMG_0022.jpeg

Also the the train ride to Denali is great as is the White Pass scenic railway ride out of Skagway. I went for a tour of a sled dog facility where they raise and train sled dogs and the head guy is a participant in the Iditarod dog races. It was quite interesting. (I love dogs) Also went on the Bearing Sea Crab Fishermen tour. 3 hours aboard a crab boat that was on Deadliest Catch. Very interesting time out of Ketchikan. Been on dozens of other tours, none disappoint.

Do you guys recommend taking along decent binoculars?
Absolutely! You want them both for land tours and viewing from the ship. We bring a pair for each of us. In fact every cruise we go on we bring binoculars.

The train ride is really nice. Double decker train cars…top deck is a domed observation deck giving great views. Lower deck is the dining car where they serve very good hot meals…tablecloth, nice dinnerware, good service, the whole nine yards.

I figured, but didn't want to add the weight and space if not necessary ... figured there was enough light that my 2 "good pair" would be good to view there 24/7. They weigh a little more, but ...

Man this is killing me. Alaska has been on my bucket list for most of my life. My wife has no interest in going and definitely not on a cruise ship. She can’t stand them. I’m just waiting until she tosses me out of the house then I’ll go build myself a cabin in the woods and live until don’t.
We’ve been together for 34 years so she will get tired of me some day. 😂

No reason you can’t book your own trips and go solo.

My wife is on a cruise with a girl friend right now. Their 4th in the past 3-4 years. They have also done 3, 4-5 day trips out west.

Mines in France at the moment with my daughter. Traveling to Alaska with out is not a problem I just don’t think it would the same without her. Plus I may never come back.
I went to Martha’s Vineyard for a sumner job 36 years ago and I’m still here. 😂

If you like cruises I would recommend it, I have been on 2 cruises they are not for me.
Agree they are not for everyone, but just maybe you took the wrong cruises. There is a wide variety of cruises available from small intimate ships, 200 or less to the mega ships with 6000+ passengers. The locations available are just as diverse, from the hot, sunny Caribbean to the frozen poles and everything in between.

Yep I understand the different sizes of ships and locals, the problem is the other people and being contained with them.

if you go on a Princess cruise and the offer the 360 Dining experience just do it. Not cheap but an indescribable experience. I can’t really describe what it’s like just do it.
We are going Princess, but 360 Dining is not offered, that I have seen yet, anyway. What about the Cruise Packages? Is the Premium of plus worth the extra $'s? BTW, neither my wife or do alcoholic beverages.

Medium to heavy drinkers, absolutely get the cruise package. Light to no drinks, no. I think the only other perks are free wi-fi and tips included. You will come out ahead paying for those separately.

The 360 dining is only on certain ships, not all. The last time we did it was on an Alaska cruise but not all princess ships that cruise to Alaska offer it.
A full drink package if you don’t drink alcohol is not worth it. Look into a zero alcohol drink package which includes speciality coffees, teas, soda etc.
