As a kid my boating usually meant hard work ! Being a striker on a shrimp boat , snapper boat , crabbing commercially . Luckily that’s out of my system and now at 61 I get out at least once a month weather permitting. But usually it’s with a group of old farts and our old vintage motors stinking up the place . A really good time actually!
You don’t have to have a pile of money and a 100,000 dollar bass boat to enjoy the water ..
And the wife is content with the 5.5 hp 1960 Evinrude Fisherman on the el cheapo aluminum boat . But I am stepping up a bit with the 62 Chris Craft restoration. I think I’m having more fun boating now than I ever did growing up !

Very nice boat.----And just like many older products , very easy to rebuild / repair.----New stuff is designed / assembled by robots.----No thought to future repairs.

I've been a boater for 70 years and a boat-owner for 57. If I can't handle it any more, send me to the nursing home. If I die before then, strap me to my jetski, push me toward Niagara Falls and yell yeeeee-haaaa for me. Let the wife collect the boat insurance.

The article above makes sense. You always see boats for sale, but the numbers see higher now. I believe that the covidboaters found out they don't really like boating after all, and now with things somewhat back to normal they can do what they couldn't do during the plandemic.

My first boat was new - home built in Grandpa's garage. The cost was real cheap. When I sold it I made a profit. Other than antiques all I ever bought was new. Since I keep my stuff a long time depreciation is of no concern to me. Besides, after working hard for 50 years, now in retirement I don't want to have to fix anything and I figure I deserve to spend the money. My kids are successful enough on their own. They can have my used boats when I'm gone.
