There is a restaurant there that serves fresh caught walleye (pickerel in Canadian English) I was a bit doubtful when I read pickerel on the menue, But it was worth every bite.

Clayton N Y at a large island lunch get together. Way off clouds on a sunny day. Some boats decide to go the 3 miles into the approaching weather. Me to with 6 old 200# seniors. 1 mile back the wind really goes up. Doing 4 to 5' waves with white caps. Can not turn around to go back. Risk of wave filling the boat too great. Move a couple of people around to get the bow way up and keep splitting the waves. All 6 of us are very experienced boaters. Not a word was spoken while driving in the dangerous conditions. We docked. Unloaded gear and silently went to our cars. I was having finger cramps from being so afraid of drowning all of us. No one had ever mentioned handing out and wearing Life Jackets. Everyone had their head down for wind protection in the bow rider.
Luck beats skill every time.

if you are on Lake Michigan near deaths door, as little as a 5 degree change in wind can change the seas from a light chop to 6 foot rollers due to the doppler effect with little to no change in wind speed.

I am grateful For the St. Lawrence River weather being much less severe than Lake Ontario big waves.

Same for us and the upper Niagara River/Lake Erie area - weather forecasts always watched closely to decide where to go for the day/night/etc

I’m late to this thread, but 10’ of chain is way too little for your boat. Most folks recommend at least one foot chain for each foot of boat length. Having an all-chain anchor rode would be pretty heavy and require a bridle or snubber. I agree with those who recommend a bigger anchor, but you absolutely need more chain.
