I see electric steering coming on new(er) boats (at least outboards. Anyone know of a conversion kit or plans for a conversion kit for the year 2000+ hydraulic power assisted steering actuator in the Volvo Penta stern dives... the ones that leak... just replaced mine 2 years ago, already leaking... and I am looking to see what the options are.

Download Dometric catalog, has kits for I/O and OB
The best I could find was an electric helm that drives an electric pump - and then a hydraulic actuator. Would probably be much better than the cable to hydraulic PAS and maybe a better actuator that would last longer, but at about $5K, I am thinking I will wait for a truly all electric steering solution, if it ever happens.

Don't think there will ever be a full electric because you would need a large electric motor to have enough torque to handle the load of the drive. Could use a gear box and smaller motor but .....

SeaStar hydrolic system
This ^^, Seastar has been around for many years and is on large boats and small boats. I've seen very few that have had issues. A lot easier to install auto pilot if you decide to later also.
