The tree rats had a party in my boat this past winter. chewed holes in my Bimini top, chewed the piping on the swim deck, and ripped up some carpet and waffle foam, I'm pretty pissed off! I should have suspected it as I live in the woods. but it just hurts when it happens. I probably will find some wiring as well.

Ouch.... Mice ate my trailer wiring...
I wish, that would have been preferable to what I experienced. I seldom use my trailer, twice a year is normal for me and only a mile to the ramp. My boat hangs in the lift most of the time. darn squirrels went down to the dock and jumped in somehow. I had a tonneau cover snapped down as well. Got lots of hickory nuts tho.

Do all of us know that most wire insulation is made of...SOY PLANT... Love the green people.
Poisoned baits are the best solution. I put them in screen boxes with holes big enough to let in animals to be killed.
Wire cable to a big nail driven into ground to prevent bigger animals dragging away cage and dead rodents.

They're persistent little buggers.... I've seen them claw/bite thru 6" pvc sewer pipe in the basement of a house..

Back in my younger days we kept our boats in lifts, not far from a group of trees. Mice, squirrels, and spiders were plentiful along with a few birds. After a few times of making a big mess, we started leaving the gas cap on the 6 gallon fuel tanks cracked open along with a bowl of ammonia and other stinky chemicals set on the floor. Never had another critter in our boats after that.

hoping to avoid an invasion is the reason I leave it in the lift over winter. It would definitely be in the woods if on the trailer. Now you know why I asked ya about air guns. leaning toward a Benjamin marauder if I can find a pre owned.

I'm gonna get a pellet gun. give me something to do this summer while sitting on the deck..
We had a huge population of grey squirrels last summer here around the house ( I’m in the woods here) As much as I dislike killing an animal and not eating them I picked off pretty many with a Ruger airhawk elite 177 cal pellet rifle with a scope. Was nocking them out of the trees up to 40 yards, one shot and dead. Think I paid around 100$ for it. Does the job once sighted in properly.
Only drawback was one fell into thick brush. I could find it. One of my labs proudly carried it into the house and laid it at my feet the next morning. Thank goodness he didn’t do that when my wife was in the room😂

Thanks, I'll look into the airhawk. it certainly is a bit less coin than the benny.

A good choice for a starter rifle....set up a feeding station so you can get in some practice !

They make.22 shells with birdshot in them. A friend of mine lived right in town and used them for a major squirrel infestation. (He ate the squirrels too) ! Nobody ever complained about hearing gunshots.

We had a bunch of feral cats and couldn't trap them as fast as they multiplied so we found rimfire shells with rocksalt, rather than a bullit. When the hat rock salt got under the skin......they did not want to come back in any shape or form !! Hard on the gun barrel, gotta keep it cleaned and oiled but it works very well !!

Yeah but its much easier to load rock salt into a 12 bore shell and the shot cup protects the bore and the cats make way more noise than the gun 😁
