I run boat in drive way and I got an overheat alarm. Work fine last time out. The boat is relatively new to me so I don't know the maintenance it's had. Thermostats and poppet valve are changed. I dropped lower unit and this is what I found

Lucky you found this out on land. Did the pump run dry before it alarmed? Did you run the motor on muffs or in a tank?

Someone / seller ran the motor with no cooling water to the pump.----Simple as that.

Seller likely demonstrated motor a number of times without water to the impeller.----That is done all the time !----The white piece likely has something to do with speedometer hose.

My F225 will move enough water using a flushing adapter. It needs to be in a tub of water. You could try using the rectangular flushing adapter, which works better than the round style. Then try fitting a large plastic garbage can under the motor and fill it with water.
