converting a long shaft 1982 7.5hp Evinrude to a short shaft question

got a 1982 Evinrude E8RLCNR that is a long shaft and would like to convert it to a short shaft. I had a short shaft gearcase from another motor and the mid section also. How do you remove the water tube?

You pull it out, then cut off 5 inches and stick it back in

Tried...it doesn't seem to be the style that just pulls out...

It is just copper tubing. You can use a pipe cutter and cut the 5 inches from the bottom, like this

there may be a retainer clip at the top of the tube, I believe it’s a “U” shaped plastic clip holding it up
