Does anyone know the purpose of the water port circled in the picture? Extremely hot water comes out of this while the engine is running. Also, after changing the recirc pump, water came out of this like a Yamaha wave runner but then stopped and went back to a slow flow.

Welcome
I have an idea but first, what boat is in pic?

There should not be hot water coming out of it while running. It might be a flush port that should be capped off until used. Where does the hose go to on the other side?

my boat is a 1998 Harris FlotDek with a 5.0 mercruiser and alpha one outdrive. I'll have to look next time I get to it, but from what I remember it goes to the exhaust.

My guess is the boat use to be in salt water and that is a fresh water flush port. It's probably missing a cap

Most likely added by the prior owner. Agree with AD, missing the check valve and cap
