my 82 year old dad has three houses he rotates between, primary got hit the other day. Oddly, only a few things taken, nothing too bad during the four hour trip. Apparently ADT did not notify the police for a couple hours and it seems that the Seattle police department does not respond to active break ins per policy.

Anyway, hes looking to set up a whole home sysment with cameras, voice, etc.

Any experience with them or other suggestions? I'll be flying out to assist with install when he makes the call.

I use them for freeze protection and have not had any trouble. So far they have been a good product. Wish I could offer more info on the security end.

Whatever you install, make sure that it has virtually instant access to what the cameras are seeing or what the alarms are sounding about. It's important.

I bought some cheap security cameras and they work fine, but they're slow to link to the Wi-Fi when alarming.

Day before yesterday, a white van drove all the way down my 400 ft. driveway, through the open gate (my wife left it open :rolleyes:) and then came next to the house, turned around quickly and vamoosed out of the driveway. The motion alarms had sounded (Intruder Alert!) long before the vehicle got to the gate but I couldn't get the cams to show me what was there until the van was 1/2 way back up my driveway, heading to the road.

I think rebooting the cams would help, but I need the boy to come over, climb the ladder and push the button. Not safe for me to do.

In today's lawlessness, the criminals have all the rights, victim's have very few. Keep good insurance coverage, or consider moving. We choose to live in an area that is hard on crime and criminals, not hard on victims. Big differences in crime depending on where you choose to live. Good luck...

We have nest as well but at 82 stubborn ass years old he locked on to simpli. Also been seeing a lot about Google overall functionality in my news feed lately that it is going to s...t and since they are about to discontinue support and online functionality of my $700 worth of thermostats I'm not steering him to that. Plus they are raising prices this year for storage.

I'm using honeywell thermostats because they are self contained, no hub needed and works from existing router

I see a few different monitoring “ company badges”
Posted at the end of driveways in my travels. Seems there is a fair share of regional companies out there. Maybe seek out a company in his area.

My mother-in-law has a whole line of ring cameras...... other than me giving her a view up my nostrils when I push the door bell, or constantly listening to the system state "activity on pool deck" or "activity at front door" when the dogs or cats run out the door, I have no knowledge of how quickly the system would reach out to law enforcement. its about a 2-3 second delay to her phone/tablet/email/wifi .

Whether law enforcement chooses to show up before or after dinner is an even bigger problem ! As a police officer in a high crime neighborhood, why would you want to be the first one to arrive on scene ? Your the sitting duck.

. It's keep this on topic please, it is about the system as it relates to the police response. It is not about the response. It is about the systems response.

I’m not sure exactly the set up in private homes, and how the police are contacted. My former place of employment had a separate dedicated phone line with its own dialer that would immediately dial into the police and fire company. They would be dispatched immediately, faster than we could call and tell them false alarm, if that’s what it was.
We had that set up in 21 buildings.
