When I loosen the two Allen bolts on the prop shaft cover it loosened the prop shaft up again. But the Allen bolts are then loose, not tight at all.

When you rebuilt the LU did you changed any parts in it?
These LU do not have any shim at either prop shaft or drive shaft.
But there are two thrust washers at the prop shaft.
One at each gear in front of clutch dog between the gear and the prop shaft.
Are they in the right place now?
If you changed the forward gear bearing, is the cup pressed all way in in the housing and if you changed the ball bearing is the bearing pressed all the way in in the cover?

I did not replace any parts, I will go thru it again and check all the washers

You called it. One washer was in the wrong place. Put it back in the correct spot & It is all good now, thank you!

The machine shop has to mill off the same amount of material at the edges
until all three edges are clean and they are perpendicular.
It is important that all three edges are even in size so that the dogs at the clutch and the gears are in contact when engaged.
