Bought a 1998 Slyvan 17” Blue Fish this fall from the original owners, as I was going to retire and the Mrs. loves to fish. But my boss conned me into another year. (Work from home so easy money.) The boat has a MinnKota Deckmate on the bow but no anchor. The only place you’ll find that anchor now is on the bottom of some lake or river. I’ve been a Reliability Engineer my whole career working a lot with pumps. So I decided to make a pump themed stainless anchor in honor of my career. I had a stainless pump shaft from Dean PH200, a 1930-1990 era centrifugal pump, that I did some machining on, picked up a stainless impeller on eBay for cheap, and bought or made some miscellaneous hardware. Weighs about 10#. I’m happy with the results and think it may even function. If not I’m not too concerned as I made it for more of a conversation piece. Next I’m going to make a stainless docking station for the Deckmate that will allow the anchor to stay docked while traveling without loading the plastic gears in the Deckmate. There are other anchors on the boat that are too heavy for the Deckmate.

Are you serious about depending on that to hold the boat ? Your lives are not worth very much to you. Buy a REAL ANCHOR before yours allows the wind and current to drag it onto a rock pile and sink.

Sounds to me like he is going to duplicate the anchor feature on his trolling motor. Mine works well in winds up to 15 mph and 2' chop. No matter what you want to use, the coast hard still requires an actual anchor on board if you're use any kind of public waterway.

I love it and agree if it doesn’t work out it’s a great conversation pice. I can see it holding under some conditions. Nice job

Looks good! I’ve seen people use a bowling ball, yes that doesn’t work well as it just slides across the bottom. Yours has a way of grabbing the bottom. Around here it’s not uncommon to get snagged on branches or logs making it difficult to get it out. But the only anchor I’ve ever lost is when the kids threw an anchor in and forgot to tie the rope to the boat!

When anchoring one of the crew used to snorkel down to check the anchor.----One time he came up and said----" Get me some rope"---Down he went and minute later we hauled up a very nice anchor.-----Nothing had been attached to it.-----I think he still uses it on his own sailboat now.

I like it ! Work themed ,shiney ,home built ,unique and a bit cool too.
That would work ,sometimes when fishing over sand or gravel I move the boat by just dragging the anchor.......it would be ideal for that

people that use the cheep carabiner snap clips loose their anchors all the time as they come unsnapped if you give slack, allow the rope to twist 90 degrees and pull.

I guess the one thing worse than pulling up your anchor is not pulling up your anchor
I mostly got rocks and weeds and I use a light grapple so if it gets stuck just give it a pull and the hook straightens out .
😁😁 What sort of anchor do you favour Scott ?😆😁
