The free AI I use basically crawls the internet and create fairly intelligent results at warp speed

Do I like it and think it good for humanity? Not really. I use it but have caught it in numerous errors. You have to double check its results.

Humanity would be better off without it. Too powerful and most people are so easily manipulated by what is shown to them without digging deeper to find what really the reality is,

Yep , its an easy answer and something to blame when you get it wrong .....mmmmI wonder how long before someone tries to use it as a defence in court

Lawyer's probably already are using it to research relevant past cases.

You guys got me going on the lack of common sense these days. I had a kid helping me winterize a building last fall and asked him to pour antifreeze in the sink and shower drains to displace the water and fill them with the antifreeze. A few minutes later I see him at the truck getting more antifreeze and he says I think we are going to need more because I used a whole gallon in the shower drain and it didn’t fill up.
Need I say any more.

Yeah and I stopped a woman tipping the 3rd 4 litre oil pack in her car outside Repco ( car parts supplier ) other day (I was watching her going in and coming out with the oil packs one at a time untill I realised this wasnt looking right ) ....she had been told where the oil goes and to make sure it was full . I told her she was supposed to check the dipstick to which she replied " Im ringin the f🤬ing dipstick now ...he can come and fix it " 😂 I got rye smile and a thank you 🙂.

Common sense has long been in short supply. This isn’t a new thing. 45 years ago while in college just outside of Chicago,I’ll, I met a beautiful and smart blonde girl from Texas. One cold morning she calls me up and asks me to look at her car, it won’t start. As I am walking to her car I notice all the ice underneath it. Yep, block busted … coolant frozen. She said that can’t be because her daddy told her to make sure she had antifreeze in the car and she went out and bought a case. She opened the trunk and there it was, a case of antifreeze.

If Johnny 5 was connected to Google. That is what basic AI like chatGPT is.. I use it periodically. It’s only as good as the information it finds.

I'm glad I made the AI comment that started this exchange. Fascinating comments. Like some who commented, I use AI as my concierge. I use it to do the searching for an answer, then I build on that, sometimes discarding part of what AI told me. But it is a great timesaver. I've asked things as simple as who are the authorized dealers in a 100 mile radius for Yamaha motors, to as complex as how do the live wells / aerators work on my specific year/model boat? The answer on the live well question was much better than anything I found on my own. The answer was model and year specific. What a help.

One of the facetube groups I am on for the 1957-1955 GM trucks recently had a poster use AI on removing the tailgate hinges.

Those trucks use two carriage bolts to hold the hinges. Accessible from inside the stake pocket. Yet the two AI answers that were posted both were made up with 20% of the people believing the AI. And the clincher is 30-40% the people on the facetube group offered their own wrong answers such as cut grooves in the head to turn it.

The lack of natural intelligence is expanding exponentially....the world is doomed
