So the voltage regulator was replaced on the engine and all the wires went back as they should. Before replacing the VR the motor ran fine but the voltage ran high at high rpms. Gas bulb is pumped full. Battery is fully charged. Engine only fires a couple of times at each start and won't stay running. Any suggestions about where to start finding the problem.

Okay solved it due to taking a picture of the wiring before I replaced the VR. I missed wiring in a couple of wires (orange and orange-black). I think its only firing on 2 cylinders. Knucklehead mistake but at least I know now what the problem is. Just one more question........what should be the torque on the 1-7/16 flywheel nut?

Make sure your tapers are perfectly clean and then after slightly lubricating the threads you want to use 105 ft lbs.

I believe the big looper V-4 uses 140 FT-LBS for the flywheel nut.

Just checked the book and I stand corrected. 140 to 150lbs.

Hope you have a good strap wrench and a buddy.
