I have a mercury 1984 50 hpw 4 cylinder, When it is idelling all cylinders are firing but when you accelerate #3,#4 cylinder misfires. I have installed a new power pack, could this be the trigger?
The motor runs great at rest but when it is under pressure it sputers and doesn't run but about 5 mph. One one plug it is putting a black carbon. Does anyone know what to do?

I have a 1984 4 cyclinder mercury and the motor fires on cylinder 1,2 and not on 3,4. Coils are good.Crossed the red to the red/white and the blue to blue/white, no change. Could this be the power pack? Is the power pack and switch box intergrated?
