    Motor runs better without cowling

    78' 25hp Johnson, do I need to adjust carb or what? Any suggestions? It doesn't want to open up with cowling on.

    What is this called?

    25 hp, long time to open up.

    Takes this thing forever to plain out, does this have any thing to do with the rich or lean knob or is it something else? Carb has been rebuilt.

    Uh-Oh! Hit a stump! '78 25 Johnson

    Tried out my 25 hp Johnson yesterday and in the process found a stump. It kept running but wouldn't go in gear. Killed it immediately and trolled back. It was pumping water when I was trying it out but didn't look to see if it was pumping waterafter I hit the stump. Got to the bank and loaded...

    Need help IDing lower unit.

    I have a '78 Johnson 25hp, it is white in color but the lower unit is dark green. A '78 is supposed to have a spline drive and this one has a pin drive. Any ideas what year the lower unit might be?

    Getting new one, which one?

    Planning on getting a new 25 hp. Make doesn't really matter to me, Any suggestions? Yamaha, Honda, Evinrude, Johnson, Mercury, Suzuki, Nissan, Tohatsu, It will be a tiller and 2 or 4 stroke also doesn't matter.

    '78 25 hp johnson-acts like it wants to slip out if gear

    Motor runs great and it has a new prop, but something is jerking and it acts like it wants to slip out of gear. A '78 johnson is supposed to have a 13 spline lower unit but this one doesn't. It has a '77 or older lower unit on it with a pin drive. As long as you hold the forward lever it doesn't...
