    I just replaced the water pump and cleaned out the lower unit to make sure that everything was clear, and still my 1987 Mercury 20xd is not peeing...     Can anyone tell me what year and hp this motor is?

    I recently acquired an outboard motor and I was told it is a Mercury but there is no way to tell because they have painted over everything on the motor... The only numbers I can find on the motor are 1497-8793.... Is this enough info to tell? Or where else do I need to look for numbers? Thank you!
