    First boat! 1989 Quantum 1800xb Force 125

Yes. HF tools are basically disposable and I would use them on this project. A few cuts and you'll choke your good Dewalt tools to death. Look at it this way...what's cheaper to replace? I'm half heartedly shopping for a tin 16-18' open bow fishing boat and the ones in my price point are going...

    Nobody fishing?

I have (11) freshwater aquariums. They come to me every time I walk by the tank asking to be fed. That includes a 110Gallon patio pond with koi, shubunkin, and a comet goldfish (fair fish - actually survived).

    First boat! 1989 Quantum 1800xb Force 125

Harbor Freight and toss their cheap warranty on it. When it dies, take it in and get another. No muss, no fuss. Read through some of the other resto threads. Some have used oscillating tools to cut close to the hull before grinding. Others have used circular saws to rough cut the floors and...

    First boat! 1989 Quantum 1800xb Force 125

Sorry to hear that. If the transom is shot, safe bet the stringers are too....which means that floor is coming up. If you're paying someone to do this break out the checkbook and defibulator. It's not going to be cheap in any sense of the word. Read: $$$$$. Is that boat even rated for 150HP? I...

    Ram down....uggh

You would think it'd do it all the time then. But it's really intermittent. I can go days with it working right and then boom...drops like a brick. Just trying to figure out the variable that triggers it before I go back into the dealer. No rhyme or reason right now. Not temp as its done it...

    First boat! 1989 Quantum 1800xb Force 125

Looks can be deceiving. It's best to do a quick test drill from the inside as close to the hull as possible. If the shavings come out like fresh wood, reseal the hole and move on. However, if they're dark...or in some circumstances have released a good stream of water...you're in for a rebuild...

Pressure treated plywood in aluminum boat

As its mineral based it may take some time to completely cure. If you can still smell it, give it more time.

    Fuse panel

You may have to lay on the floor and look up under a console to see it. If the console is sealed, you may have to find an access panel.

    Diy Jump seats

Newer boats at the big box chain fishing stores, you know the ones with a big old bass as a logo, have the rear jumpseats fold down into the "bench" to create a flat platform. The Chap in my sig takes a different approach....the rear seats pull up from the bench, remove the padding in the bow...

Why I do not have new boats.

Well....it'll be in the 16-18' range, open bow, with full windshield and a 50-90HP outboard. Comparable to what we have now, just in tin form. That way if one boat can go out, so can the other. Pretty sure that in NY you can't operate a boat w/o an adult until age 18. At least that's the rule...

Boat with paint cracks and hull damage

From a parts perspective...and this is by no way/shape/form complete... Marinized alt - not available so you're going to have to have one custom made. Not insurmountable BUT that's going to add cost to this. Marinized starter - not available so you're going to have to have one custom made...

Boat with paint cracks and hull damage

The point Scott is making is that this isn't the automotive field where you custom build an exhaust or a couple motor mounts. Marine specific parts exist, not to make money hand over fist, but rather for the safety factor built into them. You might start here and reach out to VW to see what is...

    Sharrow propellers

Every ad/review I've ever seen has been SS. Honestly haven't seen one on a boat. Either on a trailer or in a marina showroom.

Boat with paint cracks and hull damage

Those are gelcoat cracks, not paint. Given in the one pic they radiate down for quite the distance, it looks like it might have had an impact with a dock post. There may be other underlying issues you need to address. To fix, and good luck matching the color as its changed since it left the...

    Sharrow propellers

Nope. For the amount of gas I use I would NEVER EVER see the rewards from supposed fuel efficiency. And I boat in rocky woody areas, hitting something is a given. So who's going to repair that when it gets hit...assuming I can get an aluminum version because if I'm stuck with ss then I'm...

    Cabela's propeller c321423. Will it fit a Merc 150?

Cabelas isn't a prop manufacturer and the number doesn't appear in their online catalog. Are you sure of the part number as that doesn't even turn up in a google search? What's the prop stamped with? Should be markings with part number and diameter/pitch. May be marked between the blades or on...

Why I do not have new boats.

I buy new for the warranty. Have used it on all the new boats. Might be down a week at most during season but usually shorter than that as the marinas around me want us out on the water, not tying up space in their shop. And I usually wait till I have a decent punch list so that its worth...

    Engine hours

These days just plug in or connect via bluetooth to the I/O to determine the hours. Not sure if outboards are the same or not...been a while since I owned one of those. I wouldn't trust an add-on hourmeter at all. Too many variables including....owner simply disconnecting it to keep hours low...

    Ram down....uggh

Before the mgu swap, it was a consistent 13.7v all day long.

    Ram down....uggh

Think the MGU they replaced is defective. It runs fine without any load - batt indicates 13.7-14v which is normal. If its warm, so the AC is running or night where the lights and fogs are on, it'll dip down into 12.6v running. I know its not right but proving that to the stealership is going...
