    Outdrive leak question

I sure you used a regulator to limit maximum pressure in case the air supply was squeezed to much. oh well, vacuum a much better test.

my buddy had the same thing happen once. Not saying this is your issue but his alternator accumulated rust between the stator and rotor and siezed it.

New Mercruiser 5.7 with oil/water mixing

wait a minute. If he had an exhaust manifold rot through he can get water in the oil and it takes seconds with a hairline crack. I done it. My bet is on the backside of one of your exhaust manifold ports is a crack where you had hot exhaust gas on one side cool water on the other side. check...

Temperature Fluctuates - 2015 350 mag mpi ec

get a Rinda. You have temp sensors in your exhaust risers. You can see ECT, EMT etc. Mine usually ran about 159F, which is close enough to engine coolant at 160F BUT you always have ambient seawater hitting the manifolds in addition to the engine water. As far as weight exhaust manifold 69lbs...

Temperature Fluctuates - 2015 350 mag mpi ec

Wow excellent effort!!! I have a 5.0 mph with the catalyst crap. No I cannot hold the top of my hand on the exhaust elbow/riser but can lay it there for 10-20 seconds. Don't forget their is a catalyst element in their at about 1000F. Ok I lied, I removed the catalyst element so yes I can...

Bell housing to outdrive gasket protruding

That will work perfect. Remember there is zero pressure in your outdrive. only pressure is water trying to get it. probably could use playdo if it didn't dissolve.

Bell housing to outdrive gasket protruding

I had 4 slip out in a row. very common. #1 get gasket without beat, #2 pull out extruded part, use permeated ultra black to fill gap, let dry, your done. #3 take wood with sandpaper so flat and sand rock hard POS bead on gasket parallel to gasket. Truth be told the permeated works the best...

Alpha One mounting gasket w/o silicone bead?

there is zero pressure inside that cavity, its open to atmosphere. only pressure it sees is water pressure trying to push gasket in which is negligible. I sprayed my bell housing at outdirve with quicksilver outdrive paint. It was a nightmare getting the old gaskets off when I removed the...

Alpha One mounting gasket w/o silicone bead?

make sure your surfaces are 100% oil free, sliding is your enemy. Take your new beaded gasket since without bead are getting hard to find and sand the bead, roughen it up. use 220 grit, use a block of wood. sand parallel to gasket not across. Sand almost down if you like. Useless anyway and...

    Bell housing gasket protrusion

you do not want gasket to be missing you will leak water into bellows and take out bearing, shift cable etc.

    Bell housing gasket protrusion

Option two. Pull out the extruded piece rip it the fk out. then use blue tape and tape on either side of gap. then get Permatex ultra black RTV sealant and fill gap feathering into gasket that didn't pull out. remove tape. let dry your done and it looks perfect.

    Bell housing gasket protrusion

Welcome to hell. My theory is the rock hard orange bead sealant as like a bearing and allows gasket to squeeze out. Solution real easy find a gasket with no sealant bead just paper gasket. Problem immediately solved. Moderator on this forum solved it for me. CONTENT MOD EDITED

Converting 5.0 mpi to closed cooling

easily remove cats with zero issues except alarm but there is a device that sends a signal to PCM. Post cat O2 sensors only purpose is to tell the PCM the cats are working. PRecat o2 very important determine air fuel mixture. the problem with cats engines vs non cat engines it the multitude...

Converting 5.0 mpi to closed cooling

I agree oxygen content is much lower in water than air lol. I keep my engine full of water, except a month ago when Houston hit 19F. I agree with engine lasting 4ever. Had a 3.0 liter that was 35 years old when sold, flushed after each use and kept full of water. manifold if flushed only...

Mercruiser 3.0 reliability and overall maintenance?

My 3.0 liter story is as follows. Was in a 1987 Starcraft Medallist 1601. Boat ran 43 mph. First oil filter change march of 1992. Went to launch after winter (Houston) and bilge full of oil, oil filter rusted through. Put new filter on and topped off oil. ran crap out of it until 1997...
