Is there a better gear oil pump out there?

I tried that once. I’d didn’t seem to want to take any oil, or very little, and slowly. How do you manage, and what motor?

    Turning a 1995 50hp triple into 60/70 hp?

OK so are my only options looking for years that have the exact same carburetor/head? Or is the answer is I don’t know?

    Turning a 1995 50hp triple into 60/70 hp?

OK good to know thanks guys. I’m just guessing at model numbers when I look up anything other than what I have. So perhaps I’m off the mark. In any case, can somebody help me identify the years that will work? Remember, I’m not a mechanic, i’m just a DIY guy trying to learn these motors. If I...

    Turning a 1995 50hp triple into 60/70 hp?

I’m back considering this again. I am trying to determine what model years would have the parts I need to turn it into a 70hp. I’ve been using the BRP part look up and all I can determine is that 1994 to 1997 seem to be compatible by carb assembly and head numbers. 1994 is slightly different. It...

1986 Johnson 60 horse power - setting up idle?

You nailed it, I went back through it with the factory manual that I ordered. It was a slightly open butterfly. I set up the linkage as per the manual. Starts and runs (idles) good now. I made a piston stop tool from a sparkplug and the TDC mark is good. I changed the thermostat for good...

    1972 Starcraft Nova

No sense buying a full sheet. There’s so many laser shops these days that stock various alloys etc. By just what you need. I’m sure there’s one right around the corner from you.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I’ve decided to use closed end blind rivets for these random locations. 5-6 places maybe. I have to get this thing moving if I want to use it this year. I’m not restoring a 1969 Charger on a rotisserie...I just need it to work and plug the holes I just put in it lol. I’m not trimming rib ends...

Which alloy for solid aluminum rivets?

Yes, excellent, well written thread that I based my repairs on. It should be a sticky. But I’ve read other opinions elsewhere regarding the alloy that should be used. I do not see dimples on my rivets and I had difficulty with the tougher alloy, namely getting a clean, smile free face, even with...

    Amazing marine goop?

Which alloy for solid aluminum rivets?

Seems to be 2 camps on solid rivet alloys required for repairing aluminum boats. Some say go soft 1100f some say go harder with 27xx alloy. I’ve used both and the 100f alloy is night and day easier. I read that the higher alloy was to be preheated??

    Amazing marine goop?

Has anyone tried the “Amazing marine goop” in place of 3M5200? I want to re-seal the keel bow-fold of my aluminum boat before I install the floors. (Apply a thick bedding where my rivets are as I had to scrape out a pile of it

Difficulty replacing rivets in an aluminum hull.

Anyone? I’d really like to get this thing underway. Parts take another week ++ to order. I still have to put floors in this boat. Good grief I won’t be fishing till fall!!

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Thanks for the good words of encouragement. I hope to have the rivets done and sealed by next weekend. I’m not putting chine braces in, only replacing corroded rivets. I thought about slicing a small bit of rib off to get a thicker bucking tool in but was worried about compromising the rib end...

Difficulty replacing rivets in an aluminum hull.

Marine Tex the holes, re-drill when hard and use blind, closed end pop rivets with 3M 5200?

Difficulty replacing rivets in an aluminum hull.

Hey everyone, I’ve run into some troubles replacing some rivets on an aluminum hull. Some of the rivet heads on my hull were badly corroded, I had difficulty finding centre or in some cases, I drilled the hole crooked. Punching out the remaining rivet has left an oblong hole on the inside. How...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Frustrating weekend. Spent more time replacing rivets, laying on my back on a creeper. Had issues buttoning up those that didn’t go through cleanly. Had to remove a batch. I also found that the 7/16 weren’t long enough In some cases. I think I’ll have to look for some longer ones. Had issues...
