    ....stocking up for Corona virus

This post has been dormant for over one year. So...things are loosening up. Vaccines seem to be turning the worm. Iowa, like other states, is following CDC recommendations on masking requirements for fully vaccinated. Mandatory mask requirements are dropping fast at my regular stores. I'm fully...

Material Availability for DIY/Home Improvement Projects?

Same. I just came back from Menard's. I drove into the warehouse to pick up eight 2x4 studs. These, plywood, everything else wood was stacked 20' high or more. The studs were $12.59 ea. Two months ago they were $7.40 which was painful enough. No supply shortage at Menard's. The prices won't drop...

Material Availability for DIY/Home Improvement Projects?

I see 'Hiring Now' signs regularly. ...I don't understand the hold up.

Material Availability for DIY/Home Improvement Projects?

I'm getting into the short rows in my river house basement finish project. I went to Menard's today to pick up some stuff including a three gang electrical box. I grabbed the last one in the store. The j box shelves were almost empty. ....been watching them wither over the last several months...

    Shift shaft backwards?

Something is off by a mile. Make sure the yoke is pointing to the left per @Bt Doctur. Also it is tricky getting the prop shaft assembly properly assembled with the notch on the shift spool engaging the yoke. You'll know when you get it correct if the assembly won't pull out. Properly engaged it...

    Shift shaft backwards?

The splines on the shift shaft are coarse. If you get the shaft engaged in the yoke one spline off the shift linkage won't work. The foot on the shift shaft should point 12 o'clock forward in FWD, about 11 o'clock in N, 10 o'clock in REV. So when you get the lower reassembled check the shift...

Intake Valve Coking on Direct Injected Gas Engines: Fact or Myth?

Thanks @dingbat. Good read. My take: Change oil sooner than later with spec oil. .....also give the engine a good "cobweb cleaning" occasionally. ....probably more important with my Ranger. Boat engines.....happens naturally.

Intake Valve Coking on Direct Injected Gas Engines: Fact or Myth?

Thanks @Bondo. Below is GM's info page on the engine in my new boat. Reading this I got the notion it is high pressure direct injected into the cyls. I believe previous SBC engines were multiport injection into the intake manifold at the intake valves. What's your read? Doesn't matter now. I...

Intake Valve Coking on Direct Injected Gas Engines: Fact or Myth?

If my new boat ever arrives it will have a VP240SX. 4.3 GM V6 With direct fuel injection. I also belong to a G5 Ford Ranger forum. Rangers and other Fords also have direct injection. A recent thread on that forum had a lot of discussion and hand wringing about intake valve 'coking'. The theory...

Generic drugs are a good buy

.....been boatless since last Aug, and will be until this Aug. So I don't have any boat stories/issues to share. So, eye doc prescribed Lumigen drops for my pre-glaucoma. $230 for 2.5 ml after insurance kicked in $40. I whined to the ophthalmologist, asking for a generic. He prescribed...

    Attention Delta Faucet Owners

...I looked up the 17T Scott. Nice features. ...but I've always preferred manual transmissions, etc. I put a Sharpie mark on the base Delta shower valve where the water temp is perfect. ...my wife's mark is considerably more counterclockwise. ;)

    Attention Delta Faucet Owners

If you own a Delta single handle kitchen or bath lav faucet that's leaking ...do not spend $33 for the replacement cartridge shown below. RP50587. This is Delta's "diamond seal technology", and it's warranted for life. https://www.deltafaucet.com/service-parts/warranty The only requirement is...

    Updated: Momentum Management

....sorry, my first vid link was a dud. This one works. Story is that this is the computer steered superyacht GO. Cap was trying to leave port, but the computer had other thoughts. Self driving cars? ...not for me. I just hope others stay in their lane.

    Snow Birds: Beware!

Yea. I looked into the Honeywell "wire saver' per @sangerwaker 's post #3. I couldn't figure out their wiring diagram, so I called their tech support. Turns out it only works with Honeywell stats with a 'K' wire terminal. But the guy was good enough to tell me about the G wire workaround...

Potential Purchase of a Rinker.. Thoughts?

My pal still has his Rinker Captiva 206 cuddy. '93 or '94 I believe. 350 mag Merc Alpha II. It's been a mostly solid, hard running boat. ....personally I think the cuddy is a waste of space vs. a BR, but they did beach camp with it when their kids were young. We did discover lower transom rot...

Need advice on a Tecumseh 2 stroke diaphragm carb.

Thanks. I reread the downloaded manual and realize I had the two screw functions swapped. I'll try these adjustments and see if things improve.

Need advice on a Tecumseh 2 stroke diaphragm carb.

I resurrected my folk's '82 Toro S140 snowblower for use at the river house. I has a Tec 2 stroke AH1584a engine with a 632103 diaphragm carb, with fan vane governor. Manual says back the front idle screw out 1 turn, inside power screw out 7/8 turn. It runs OK as long as I don't crowd it. If I...

    Residual Heat during this "lockdown"

I've been pondering a smaller utility tractor, or compact utility tractor for our river house. There are 21 properties on our +- 1/2 mile private road. We pay $150 in club dues for road maintenance and upkeep on an old snaggletooth S10 P/U that moves the snow. One or two full time residents...
