Tohatsu 9.8A3 EP no tilt lock

To limmaculate clean and grease it good will need to remove both mentioned parts, don't know if possible to do it with motor installed on a sailboat, if so watch out for those parts not falling into the blue... Happy Boating

Why don't I see more jet motors?

Besides what's been posted, need to install the jet engine on a light boat lightly loaded as possible or risk loosing extra power. Other issue is that won't be possible to go for a prop maximization as with outboards and probably the motor will only rev at around middle of its wot rpm range...

    Decarboning a Crankcase.-

Want to fully restore a 2 stroke 2 cylinder motor to factory conditions, has excessive carbon build ups, stuck hardened old gasket's and gasket's left overs on the entire crankcase. Doing it manually will take too much time, as don't have fancy products to soak overnight was wondering if a...

Honda BF20 water in crankcase oil

Aside your issue 4 Stroke motors tend to make what's called "Make Oil" , the oil level inside the crankcase will inevitably be increased way more than what the deep stick measured when at top mark after changing new oil, seems it's due to external temperatures changes and moisture building...

    Tohatsu MFS50A intermittent power loss

Priming the bulb only works well when the motor tends to die of fuel starvation, if priming again and again repetitively and the motor springs back to life each time , the fuel pump its working all right. If you squeeze hard the bulb till firm as a rock, check if there's any fuel spills at both...

Tohatsu 6hp still not broke in having carb issues?

A 14 footer Sib well inflated achieves less hull drag and will plane faster due to being much larger than a 8.6 Sib which achieves more hull drag due to its shorter size. A Rib of equal size to a Sib planes much faster. Let's wait till the OP report his wot rpm run as loaded with an 8 pitch and...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

On 2 stroke 2-3-4 cylinder motors won't find the spark plugs darken exact same as with 4 stroke ones, one or 2 will differ from the rest. The OP has installed new parts inside each carb along adjusting float's height to specs. If opening the fuel pump will surely find both rubber diaphragms...

Honda bf50 spark and carb issues

If you're using the lower leg's flushing port with an adapter to flush the motor need to tape what's mentioned, assume are the side lower water intakes or any other one or the flushing will loose top water pressure. Prefer muffs, it's faster to attach and won't screw the threads located at the...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

Yep the plugs looks pretty even in color to me, seems the carbs and the electrical components are doing their homework right. If the fuel pump were with issues will need to prime the bulb constantly or the motor will die, not your case, right ? With a standard fuel line and tank prime the bulb...

Tohatsu 6hp still not broke in having carb issues?

A high thrust prop it's intended to move high loads such as sailboats, not for light Sibs as a 14 footer, the OP has not mentioned how many souls will be onboard. A 3 blade 7.8- 7-6 pitched will do the trick depending which was the reported wot rpm achieved as loaded with current 8 pitch...

8hp starts but runs only at high rpms

Before ordering a pressure tester, seems the motor it's idling rpm low and shuts down, probably the low idle rpm screw is playing tricks, with time and motor vibrations the screw tends to unscrew itself. With motor fully warmed up screw it CW a tad more and check if still dies ? If doesn't...

89 40hp carb solenoid pump leaking

If you prime the bulb with arrow pointing upwards till fully firm is there a fuel leak at the pump's solenoid or around its side ? Assume have installed new gaskets around the solenoid if happens to count with one, more than one ? Happy Boating

Tohatsu 9.8A3 EP no tilt lock

At a closer schematic look rod 18 is which holds in place the metal bracket 16, that rod it's surely stuck salted, oxidized already inside both upper bushings and not letting the spring 17 do it's full up-down work when seting the lever to max tilt position. Check.... Happy Boating

Honda bf50 spark and carb issues

If the leaking takes place after priming the fuel bulb till firm there's 3 possible issues to check : The bowl's gasket is shot, dried, doesn't seal well, the float's needle it's not sufficiently sharp pointy to seal well against the needle's valve, the needle's valve is severely gunked as has...

Tohatsu 9.8A3 EP no tilt lock

I'm not familiar with that particular model, I'm more inclined that will need to remove parts 20-22-23-21-16-17, clean and grease them well with proper marine grease. All manual tilt mechanisms will not lock and engage well at the fully up position the sooner or later specially if it's a salt...

    Cutting out and stalling

That's a 19 year oldie, was always run in fresh or salt water which will determine how salted or dirty are all the water passages inside the powerhead. The issue is don't expect to read the same temp say on the cylinder or exhaust chamber measured when out of the box compared to your motor which...
