Which States/Provinces Enforce Registration Numbers Requirements

The bottom line is that it's not the state or the county or the place. The regs are the regs. Follow them and there will no problem anywhere or ever. It's the Officer. If his wife poed him that morning you might be in trouble.

    Lifespan of airhead tubes

When the boys were small and wanted to go tubing (floating in our pond) we bought a couple at KMart. When they got older and wanted to tube behind the boat we bought ones more suited. The old ones were left inflated, tied together, and used as a "pillow" under our winter pool cover. They are...

    1969 25 Hp Johnny Rude/Kicker?

You don't need a kicker, you need a bigger boat. Your Jon isn't safe with that many occupants.

    1969 25 Hp Johnny Rude/Kicker?

Get a 1.5 HP Evinrude Mate. It would be better than an electric because it would not need that heavy battery.

    1969 25 Hp Johnny Rude/Kicker?

Don't overthink it. A 3 HP is fine. A 6 won't make you go any faster. Why a long shaft? They are hard to find in the small HP range. You aren't going to plane the boat, so the position of the AV plate is not critical. You just need the prop to be mostly below the bottom of the boat.

Buying a US boat and bringing back to Canada

A few years ago I decided I wanted a new boat and picked out the make and model. My local dealer quoted a price and said it would be months before it would be made and delivered. As luck would have it, I found the exact one in a dealer's showroom in Canada, only 5 miles from the US dealer...

    Hydraulic steering

My current system is 4 years old. There is a fill port on the dash, connected to a hose leading to the helm unit. I understand it has to be a closed system to function, but how does the fill port figure in to the process? I know the boat was manufactured in October (down south), but obviously...

    Hydraulic steering

What is the typical "when"? 5 years, 10 years?

OK check list time for a parked boat for 7 years.

Replace the tires. STs are way past their service life, no matter what they look like.

Which States/Provinces Enforce Registration Numbers Requirements

3" high is std. in NY. Plus spacing must be right. It IS enforced. My son bought a brand new boat and the dealer put on custom numbers. He was stopped the first day out because the officer said the contrast wasn't right and it wasn't very visible. The dealer sent him new ones.

50HP evintude tiller fuel connector question

Yamaha was not in the USA market. When OMC's patents expired, they came over here with a big splash. They may have made improvements to the OMC designs, I dunno, but they certainly claimed that in their advertising campaigns. If you look at comparable models back in the day, once you took the...

50HP evintude tiller fuel connector question

I live in a major boating area. Back in the day I would guess 5 or 6 OMC dealers and 5 or 6 Mercury dealers. They all would work on a freaking electric shift, but it seemed like they still were a problem when the motor came back. I was personally not a mechanic, so I had to rely on the...

50HP evintude tiller fuel connector question

Maybe one of the "things", but the Ficht is what secured their demise. My own personal experience is that the Selectric Shift was even worse. I realize that many will claim that was wonderful, but no mechanic in my area could ever fix one.

    Can Rollers Damage the hull?

Never believe what you are "told". Do your own research. The valid info is provided on the manufacture's web site. I HAVE a Whaler, so I have their Owner's Manual. They will permit bunk trailers, but their #1 recommendation is full keel rollers and side bunks. The spec is to alleviate a...

    Can Rollers Damage the hull?

In my 55 years of boat ownership of countless boats, wood, glass and aluminum I have never had a dent in the hull, or any other damage for that matter. I will only own roller trailers. There are roller trailers and there are roller trailers. The "good" ones carry a small amount of weight on...

    BRP Engine Tuner ?

Put the boat in the water. Run the engine at fast idle as you spray the entire can thru. Then take the boat out and run the crap out of it. When you get home, replace the spark plugs.

is a 60hp outboard too small for this boat

If you are a "regular" guy and need the utmost speed, you will need a bigger motor. If you simply want to have an awesome time with your family and make memories for a lifetime, what you have now will be fine. The caveat is that the motor is in good condition and runs well. ANY motor (within...

    My old Motor

Just before I retired I read a white paper that detailed the "Eleven Rules To Follow In Retirement". A few stuck. 1. Eliminate hassle. I tinker with my "toys" but the family boat and the fishing boat go to the dealer. When I want to go out I don't want to have to work on something. 2...
