    454 Low Vacuum + Flutter?

I had a MK4 330 hp 454 ”V” drive in. 24’ Campbell, I could get 14-15 ins. On the trailer. Roughly 1/2 of that in the water. google the procedure for adjusting the secondary air valve spring on your Quadrajet.

    454 Low Vacuum + Flutter?

Keep in mind that there is more vacuum when the boat is on land, the back pressure when the boat is in the water on the exhaust will change the vacuum reading.

My OMC, 305 V8 stinger has a Prop Lyft problem

The spring coupling is known as the “hammer blow coupling“ in the OMC service/parts manual. It gives the motor a free 1/4 turn before it engages the tilt worm shaft. Check post#2 about the plastic thrust washers. They center the coupling.

    Mc-1

The spring loaded button on the top of the lower vertical shaft pushed the upper gear shaft upward in the driveshaft housing enough that the seal did have enough contact with the seal surface extension on the lower gear. A good chance that either the seal surface is rusted or there is a groove...

My OMC, 305 V8 stinger has a Prop Lyft problem

With the drive down remove the rubber bumpers then back the 4 saddle mounting bolts 1 turn. Pump sone grease in the fittings, snug up the 4 bolts but not tight then try raising the drive, see if that helps. Then tighten them. are the 2 plastic thrust washers on both sides of the spring coupling?

Boat starts in driveway and on water but not on ramp

Just to be sure do the voltage check. That will narrow down the problem. A low or no voltage by pass circuit is real intermittent. Remove the flame arrestor, hold the choke open and have someone pump the throttle a few times look into the air horn to see if the accelerator pump is squirting fuel.

Boat starts in driveway and on water but not on ramp

If there was water in the carburetor it would not go wot. Get a volt meter, check the voltage at the +or bat side of the coil while the engine is cranking. There has to be 12 volts when the engine is turning over. If below that or no voltage then the ignition by pass circuit is the cause. The...

Trim goes up but not down

2Xs withe Dubs283. You overloaded the circuit jumping from the + on the coil to the pump. The color is easy to remember of the wires In the trim circuit. Green grass down and blue sky up.

    Seriously stuck gimbal bearing

If you cannot remove it with a slide hammer as Chris said then un bolt the bell housing and bellows. With a good punch hit the bearing so that it rotates 180* in the carrier then you will be able to drill through the aluminum outer carrier which should weaken it enough. Then with the slide...

    Your take on Transom Thickness

Another reason for the 2” minimum transom thickness is needed to make sure the inner and outer transom parts do not “bottom out” against each other causing the inner plate to crack which will spread out the 2 vertical rear mounting holes. When that happens it is impossible to mount the engine.

    Trim motor for old DP290

Try Arco marine supply for a new motor. Your trim motor might only a set of brushes. Sierra Marine has several so try to google them.

    Your take on Transom Thickness

When Yamaha was in the stern drive business I saw a 25 Bertram that someone butchered in a pair of V6 packages. The inside was cut up pretty bad. One look and I told the owner not to call me under any circumstances. As what Chris said a 400 hp engine combination would work better than a pair...

1972 glas_ply need help with power tilt lines

I think I may have hit one with my 24‘ Campbell Daycruiser. The La. Wildlife and Fisheries just trapped 2 of them in the New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor. Any gator under 7’ gets relocated and anything larger gets a bullet. Every so often they are spotted in the local drainage canals...

How to launch stern drive safely?

The ball gears are always turning when the engine is running. Yes, the propeller does not spin in neutral. Your throttle /shift is working as it was designed.

    Penta 270 Outdrive U-Joint Options

I used the joints from a 1982 Dodge pickup. A good independent “if you can find one” auto store who still uses books and does not need to know what color the truck is they are for.

1972 glas_ply need help with power tilt lines

Tools needed. 7/16” socket and ratchet, 3/8” flare nut wrench. When you pull the block down you will be able to remove the 2 lines. Just be sure to mark which one is front and rear and to be safe replace them 1 at a time. The gasket may tear and also the aluminum that the block is made from...

How to launch stern drive safely?

Just as SD said it is safe to idle in forward or reverse gear with the drive raised enough so as not to grind up the propeller or break a gear. Just be sure to put it down when you are clear of the shallows.

    Trim pump problem

Check under the pump where the 4 bolts hold the valve body to see if any are loose and if there is fluid leaking from the bottom. If the body has to come off disconnect the lines and remove the bolts. There are 4 “O” rings under the valve body which can be matched up at any auto store. Quite...

    Stingray mercruiser 3.0 engine problem

I checked with Michigan Motors who sell rebuilt engines, however they are out of stock at this time. Marine Power has new ones but @ $4500.00 plus freight is a lot of $. Your engine probably can rebuilt locally by a good rebuilder. From your description the timing gears or the crankshaft key...
