    Oh, with points the shift interruptor grounds the coil during shifting. The EST needs 12V applied when shifting. So disconnect the ground side of the switch and connect 12V from the purple wire

    Not sure but think the 1988 might be a 2.5 maybe @Bondo might know for sure As for the 4.3 it will burn a slight bit more fuel because it weights more then the 3.0 So long as you stay away from WOT it should be fine

    Measuring + to - side of coil means nothing. The + side gets full time 12V and the - side keeps being switched to open then Ground to cause the spark

    The change in idle with the jumper indicates the IAC is functioning properly. In service mode the ECM increases idle to set timing correctly

    Will add check the power on the Red/Purple wire at the key. Turn key to start and does in drop? If it doesn't drop, do same on Purple and the Yellow/Red wires
