    That was the factory replacement amplifier like 40 years ago.----Does spark jump a gap of up to 1/2" on a test device , yes or no.----Check each lead.----Perhaps run at night and see if spark is leaking under the flywheel.----Have you cleaned all components under the distributor cap.----Anti...

    Some Johnson / Evinrude outboards use a shift interrupt switch.-----But not your model !

    Test run with another tank and hose.-----I can not see or touch your motor.----It should be simple to determine what is wrong !----What are the actual cylinder compression values ?

    Likely it was NOT an ignition issue.----See trouble shooting in post #12 !-----These tips seem odd to some folks but these are proven NO MONEY WASTED steps in finding the culprit !

    When I pick up one of these 6 HP motors ( I have more that 10 of them ) , I pull the flywheel----Usually I find new ignition coils.-----All 1973 coils have cracked.-----If yours are they need to be replaced.----Does spark jump a gap of 5 /16" on both leads ?

    Model # of motor?----Does lower unit have extra horizontal fins on bottom of lower unit ?
