Compression is basically no good....not worth doing anything.
4 years ago is a long time.
Running the motor not hooked up to the battery ruins the rectifier but I guess your never ran that way.
Time for a parts motor with a good power head.
Most motors will run good underload because they are ....underload.
Your motor is mechanically shot. Rebuild or buy something else. Tough lesson but your in a very large crowd.
Most of them are control wires....red one is hot, match it.
As far as connectors, water proof. Personally, get the stock ones or new pins if you can.
Motor look like this? I made a name change!
He was buzzing around at 5500 RPMs and I was going to meet him and give him a lower pitch prop....never went to slow mode. I told him to ground the wire going to the overheat switch....he said he did that and nothing happened (no alarm)
Stupid is as stupid does.
Just loaned him a motor.
Agreed, complete job or nothing. He didn't check the overheat alarm system only the oil alarm. Admitted going though a kelp bed.
No limp mode so obviously an issue with the sensor.
Agreed, find the overheat prob and repair
Thanks guys.
"needs a new stator. I charge the battery manually when I get home and it never runs down when I use it. What is likely the next step?"
This line makes no sense. If you have a charging issue check the rectifier.
Besides checking compression (do this first) try a different carb.....this assumes...
Sold a 2000 70 HP Johnson to a guy and gave him a excellent price but told him I have not gone through it. It was a yacht tender motor so low idling hours...just Sun scorched.
We test ran it at my place and I walked him through what he needed to do. He sent me pictures of him and his wife and...
