    Water in bilge

I cannot fill the bilge. It's a cruiser boat and since the leak is at the steering arm, which is higher than the engine, I would flood 3/4 of the engine and the cabin. I will start with what I saw leaking from inside the bilge. The steering arm is leaking drops, but since there is some slack in...

    Water in bilge

Bellows must be at least 10 years old, but in Canada, summer is short, and it is fresh water, and yes, I store it with the drive in the down position. I have the drive and pivot housing removed right now, and will replace the bellow with the new Volvo design (rigid plastic). I will also...

    Bellow condition??

What other things to do 'while I'm there'...? I know there is a slow dripping from the steering arm area. I will replace the O-ring. I don't thing the Volvo has a shift cable bellow, so I'm ok with that. There is a bit of slack in the top and bottom pins at the gimbal. I read another thread...

    Bellow condition??

Thanks for the tip, I will do that. I was curious to know, those screws seem to be stainless steel. Do they tread into aluminum or there is steel insert in the aluminum. If aluminum, do the treads get damaged sometimes?

    Bellow condition??

    OK, that's good to ear.

    Bellow condition??

I also have a SP-SM with a soft rubber bellow. I watched many videos, and it seems that the new Volvo bellow is made of hard plastic, and that it is not possible to insert it in the opening, and the drive and 'pivot support' (I don't know the name) need to be removed. Did you have a hard rubber...

    Bellow condition??

OK thanks guys. I will change it.

    Bellow condition??

My boat is used in fresh water 99.9% of the time and is stored on the trailer when not boating with the outdrive lowered to make the below straight. I want to know if the condition of the bellow is bad or normal. Rubber seems dry a bit and I can see a shallow crack. The new Volvo bellow are...

    Water in bilge

Same here. When I bought the boat it was dry.

    Water in bilge

I did, but there is no difference. I start to think it may be related to the outdrive being trimmed up, when I go anchor in shallow places. I'm removing the outdrive soon. The season is over here. I will examine the bellow. Is there a bellow on the shifter cable for a DP-SM?

    Water in bilge

Yes I will. The season is almost over here in Canada. But I remember when I bought the boat in 2018, the bilge was always dry. I also don't like to see water in there. To me, it looks like an old boat with that water, I also want it dry.

    Water in bilge

I will check the bilge pump outlet compared to the water level as you suggested. It's not the same pump as when I bought the boat, so maybe this one doesn't have an anti return flap... Like you said, things may be different when motoring from anchoring where I only see drops of water coming in...

    Water in bilge

When I run it on the hose at home, for 30 minutes, nothing leaks from the engine. Even motoring at 1000 RPM and the hatch opened, I take a look around the engine, and I don't see anything leaking.

    Water in bilge

It is 48 hours continuous in the water. I did drive the boat with the hatch opened, and didn't see anything coming from the engine or risers. But I could see water moving in the bilge, that was not there at home.

    Water in bilge

I pull the drive every other year. So last time was in November 2023. From the outside, the bellow only shows surface dryness? It's not like new, but there is no crack. I was planning to change it next month when I winterize the boat.

    Water in bilge

It's a Chaparral Signature 260. A cruiser boat. No ballast or livewell.

    Water in bilge

Hi, when I go boating for a week end, sleeping at anchor, and take the boat out, there is about 2 gallon of water draining from the plug at the boat ramp. When anchored, I checked in the bilge, and the only signs of water intrusion I saw was a drop every 20 seconds from under the steering arm...

Engine overheats after water heater failure

UPDATE: 1: I removed the circulating pump and opened the rear cover, and everything looks normal. Vanes are normal, bearing not noisy, no leak. Reassembled the pump. 2: While the circ. pump was off and the thermostat housing also, I flushed and backflushed the engine. Again, everything was...

Engine overheats after water heater failure

Yes that's what I did, bypass the water heater with the hose, but overheat occurred. The temperature reading is from the sensor at the thermostat housing, that the computer uses. And the data is sent to my Garmin. So the 185 and climbing is what the computer sees at the thermostat. Normally it...

Engine overheats after water heater failure

I have the gauge on the dashboard plus a digital display in my Garmin. So I'm pretty sure my reading is good. Where would a blockage occur and make it slowly overheat? There is water coming out of the outdrive. ...maybe not enough... could it be the circulation pump? Can it be tested?? It's...
